Default 8.25 problems again.

Last time I posted for help with a carrier issue and I think I have the right carrier now but a new problem has come about. Today the mechanic called and told me that the driver's side axle isn't sticking out far enough to put the clip on and the passenger side axle is sticking out way too far. Anyone know why this problem would be occurring? The rear-end is the original 8.25 and I'm jumping from 2.45's to 3.55's. I called the place I got the carrier and they said without a doubt that I have the right carrier, but all the people I've talked to so far have no clue as to why the axle's aren't lining up the way they should. I looked at the passenger side one today and it is sticking out by an inch and a half while the driver side isn't even out far enough to put the c-clip on.
thanks for any info or help.

A-body should have the same length axle shafts.

Is there an axle saver bearing on that side. They stick out too far to get the c clip in with a posi rear end.

The carrier that I was sent wont work on my year 8.25. Somebody posted on here before that the 8.25 can be a tricky rear end and they were right. Certain carriers work with certain years, certain one have different breaks. It's been a nightmare. I never thought switching from 2.45's to 3.55's would be this big of a headache. I should have put a 8.75 in and been done with it. Thankfully someone on here directed me to IWE rearends and they know their stuff up there in Canada.

First thing we tried, even though we felt like idiots doing it. They are the same length.

Glad you got it done. I didn't know about 8.25" variations either. Tricky indeed, as John K. pointed out earlier. At least now you have it sorted, future maintenance will be easier (cheaper, even?) than an 8 3/4. Thanks for sharing that info. And yes, Ian and crew do know their stuff
