Am putting a denso alternator out of a 94 ram van in the 86 5/A. Does this alternator need a regulator? I suspect it's not internally regulated. Can I just connect the field to the existing wires from the regulator? Thanks.

The computer on the van regulates the alternator. I don't see why you couldn't wire it into the factory harness and let the computer regulate the new alternator. Or you could wire in voltage regulator from the 5th ave too.

Thank you, thank you, JV. Just what I needed.

An '86 should have the same external regulator that was used from '70-on and the Denso wires the same way as the original.

Thank you, John, also. Makes wiring a no-brainer. I am struggling just a little with the mounting, but that is just some engineering and will have time tomorrow.
