I have a '49 Desoto and am looking for more performance out of the flathead six that is in it. Any ideas on more performance?

Not an awful lot you can do with bolt-on parts. I used to mill the head, lighten the flywheel and install dual exhausts by welding another outlet on the manifold. There are still "3/4 race" cams to be found and I've read about electronic ignition conversions. They also used to make adapters that allowed you to install a two barrel carb. A friend put one on his Studebaker, and the performance increase was noticable, but not radical. Check out the sites I recommended to Stu in another post.

Check the Licks section of www.p15-d24.com. It has a flathead speed equipment section. You can add dual carbs, headers, hotter cams, hi comp. heads, electronic ignition.
