Interesting idea. You can buy quartz movements that run on batteries in the crafts section at Walmart, but I don't know how well they'll fit your clock. You could try the Clock Doc in Tn (800) 286-8362 or 125 University Ave, Sewanee, Tn. He rebuilds clock and converts them to quartz.

You could simply put a switch on the power lead for the clock. When you park the car for winter, turn off the clock.
Another idea is to disconnect the battery when going into winter hibernation. Realisticly, the quartz clock has very little current draw. I don't see why the battery would have any problems keeping the clock alive and still have enough current to start the engine in the spring. You may also wish to think about starting the engine and letting it run for untill the battery is up to charge, once ore twice a month. This is good for the battery and it also help keep oil on the topside of the engine. If you let the car sit for three months, without starting it and then go to start it without priming the engine, you are doing alot of damage to all of the bearing surfaces. ------------------ Ed - MoPower '96 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT CC 360 4X4 '68 Charger 383-4 '69 Coronet 500 Convertible 440-4 |
