I AM LOOKING FOR SOME HELP ON ID'ING A MOTOR I RECENTLY BOUGHT AT A GARAGE SALE. THE NUMBER ON THE FRONT PAD IS #51426C. I HOPE IT IS A 426, BUT CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS? ALSO, ONCE I CLEAN THE BLOCK UP, WILL THE CASTING NUMBERS TELL ME WHAT YEAR IT IS AND WHAT THE APPLICATION IS? ALL COMMENTS AND HELP IS APPRECIATED, THANKS.

Well it looks to me like it might be a 426. I know that on the RB blocks that the numbers are stamped on the deck surface just infront of the head. I can't remember what side though. It will give you the displacement and other codes such as carb size, if the crank has been turned down from the factory, if the lifters are oversized, and other info like that. Hope this helps some

it is a 426, but you need the casting numbers to tell exactly what it is.

Thanks mikesram, I'll check the casting numbers and let you know what it turns out to be. By the way, where do you find this info?

big numbers on side of block, usually on either, or both sides, nice find whatever it is. post numbers when you have them and someone will be able to i.d. if they are different from what I posted.
got the numbers from galen govier s little white book. I dont know if you know who he is. hes called the mopar guru, and sells these books with lots of info.
