Question: (1948 DsSoto) When I come to a stop and I'm in high gear, 3rd.I have to put in the clutch, if I don't it will stall out. Is this the way this is supose to operate? Fifteen years ago I had a 47 Dodge club coupe with fluid drive, and when you came to a stop you could leave the clutch out and it wouldn't stall out. And then you could take off in high gear. What is the difference between my 47 dodge and the 48 DeSoto fluid drives?

Does the Desoto have a standard 3 speed or the optional Tip Toe shift tranny ? If it has the standard 3 speed should work like your Dodge. Might check the Desoto site for someone familiar with the Tip Toe operation.
