Getting ready to put top on Challenger- noticed there are twosets of pads in the box. The usual set that goes from the windshield to the back glass, and another set about 30 inches long. Anybody know where this other set of pads is supposed to go? -Pat

I'm not sure about that, the service manual shows pads going from front to back on both sides about a foot wide.

My trouble is the I can't get the tacks that hold down the chrome-tipped trim that goes left-right above the rear window to stay in!
Can you replace a plastic window with a glass without replacing the top?

Also, any idea where I can find the stainless trim around the back that the boot snaps too??

As both of you appear to have replaced your tops, how hard was it?

Would you do it again or would you recommend a pro/body shop do it?

Sorry ehostler,
I had this problem with mine when I bought the car. Personally I would definately check the prices for a professional to install it. Get it down right and sealed. Make sure all the drain slots are flowing well while your at it.

Good Luck,

Well, the top is on. I just didn't use the shorter pads, so if anyone has a shortened Challenger Convertible, LOL...

This is the third top I've put on my car in the last twenty years, so I'm getting experienced I guess. It's not too terribly hard, but if you've never done it you definately want someone with some experience there to help- the worst part is trying to get it all pulled tight with no wrinkles.

The little chrome tips are held on with small screws, not tacks- that's why they won't stay in. Get a couple of #4 or #6 sheet metal screws about 1/2" long, oval head, preferrably stainless. Use whichever looks better in the piece without falling through the holes. -Pat
