Question

Can anybody answer this question? : I thought the hardened seats were not an issue as long as you install stainless steel exhaust valves. The reasoning behind this is that in an lead unlubricated head a stock valve with "pull" chunks of the seat up as time wears on., whereas the stainless valve will not do this due to the material of the valve.
Is this true? i have a set of 906 heads, which i am rebuilding, and i was wondering if i should change over to hardened seats or not, being that i am replacing all the valves /w Mopar stainless ones. Also i was wondering about going with 10 degree retainers and keepers? At what degree of modifcation do you really need them, 6000+ RPM? I have a 440 +.060, 10.5:1 KB pistons, 292 MP cam, M1 Intake, 906 heads, 850 holley.

Is there anybody that sells trans-brakes at reasonable prices? I've looked everywhere only to find $500+ prices. Is this about the standard?

Also, has anyone bolted a Hydromatic Dual Range trans to a big block? I have a 57' Hydromatic, which is setting behind a 58' 389 Pontiac +.125, 12.5:1 forged pistons, M/T Alum. Rods, 314 Roller cam, etc. The trans is tricked out for my street application, but i can't find a way to get it behind the mopar i have. (don't wanna run the package /w Alum. rods for street app.) If anyone has information on adaptors for a hydro please let me know.

Cool

The heat, associated with combustion, softens the seat and the friction, associated with valve rotation, wears down the seat.

Get the hardened seats or go with a ported set of 452s.
