Question

Here are my thoughts mopar short block p4876908 for 10.5 to 1 comp. with 65 cc heads.
edelbrock rpm heads.I currently have a 340 with an m1 single plane ,crane 1.6 roller rockers, msd ignition that i can reuse.
The question is if I buy lifters and a new oil pan and of course flywheel. Will it make the number? Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated.Just keep in mind the 2500$ budget. thanks

I think you're going to need a better set of cylinder heads to get this Hp number you want.Personally,I'd use a set of W-2 heads, they have been out since 1976 and there are tons of used sets(intake, rocker gear, heads)floating around in very good shape. In fact a few months ago I bought a set that was from 1976 that were never used.Got everything for $300.00.So look around there are deals to be had!!

Thanks christopher. Is there any way to reuse 8 of my roller rockers for the exhaust, and buy 8 offset intakes for use with econo heads. Will my m-1 work with these heads with maybe a little creative axe work? The only build up i saw with rpm heads was in P-H-R and they made 437 h.p. with 9.7 to 1 comp.
But my buddy has a 355 shivvy with rpm heads at 9.8 to 1 and man is it strong 11.90's in a 70 nova with no NOS.I just mainly want my cuda to take that nova,on pump gas. thanks again

I can't run aluminum heads in my class, so I don't keep tabs on them. I was wondering however, what the Brodix BA heads were costing. They were pretty good out of the box from what I remember.

Is there something wrong with your 340? Check out the posting under max lift with hydraulic cam to see the potential.

hey 340 king, this may sound stupid but,my 340 is a 73 cast crank which is #'s matching to my car.anyway it's .040 over with stock cast replacement pistons, thin head gaskets .474 280 MP cam stock heads with 2.02 valves.
so far it's gone 13.40 @ 102mph ,2.0 60ft.
the car has 3.91 and 4-sp.My rod side clearence is .024 kind of loose.I have already replaced the thrust bearing and I want to save the motor. The mopar short block is right within my budget.I just want good heads to compete with my buddy.I may end up just porting my 587's.The track opens up in 2 weeks so for now Im just going to put on some s/s springs and keep my fingers crossed.
I'll update you guys on my times.hopefully that shivvy will grenade.
