Great board! I am in the process of re-building a old 76 charger bomber/streetstock car and Im in great need of information. My first question, is there any areas on a mopar unitbody car that should absolutely not be removed or gutted? Im try to remove all that I can becuse after last season ( just got car only ran two races) I scaled the car and found out that it was just at 4000 lbs! our rule is 3400lbs. So i want to remove all I can but I just dont want to remove anything really important to the structure. Anyways thats it for know but I have many more questions to come thanks a million!

Wow! That's heavy. I don't know of anything that you can't cut out that isn't obvious. Cut out all the fender wells, door panels, just basically everything but the shell. There is a page in the mopar oval track book that tells how to stiffen up the unibody so that it won't flex, thereby making it hard to work with setups. I'm not sure it's necessary in a bomber class though.

If you haven't already, don't forget to go over all of those factory seams that are glued together with a wire feed. They'll be the first thing to come apart. Do it underneath the car, too, around the torsion bar mounts and frame extensions.

From reading your post it appears that the car was already competing when you aquired it. I had a real tough time keeping the mud from accumulating in the frame of the car. The front box sections are perfect for trapping mud. I spent 1 hour forcing mud out of my frame at the end of one season. I kept the rocker panels and A pillars in my car to add strength. I also did not cut the fenderwells out. It does matter how rough and tumble the local operation runs when determining the proper lightness/strength of the car.
