I recetly purchased a set of the new aluminum stage 6 max. wedge bare heads, off set rockers, new m1,valves,gaskets. etc. After a trip to my porting guy he says have you check to see if the exhaust valves will fit passed the casting? It seems when they finish the valve seats the cnc machine cuts in were it feels like according to mr. Tech Guy. "soory" "send them Back". Another friend of mine build this R block 340 spends tons of money machineing and buys a set of mopar performance rods. After 10 trips down the 1/4 he has 25% leak down. It turns out the mopar rods riss pins are 8 thousands crookit. Cocking the piston in the bore.
As a mopar enthusiest for 31 years and with all this after mart part market you would think mopar would take a closer look to what leaves the assembly line. |

I know what you mean. I purchased a new distributor, pulled it out of the box and instantly saw that the roll pin on the shaft had split the plastic whatumacallit that is was going through. I sent it back, got a new one, and checked the air gap at the reluctor. .008 like it is supposed to be. Installed it and fired up the beast. It ran for about 10 minutes, then the dist. self destructed. I pulled the cap off and there was pieces of metal everywhere! Apparrently,a plate wasn't mounted correctly so it rattled apart untill the reluctor jumped into the pickup. I heard some of the parts are made in Mexico now.

I can't speak for Mopar Performance, but I do know that some of the other manufacturers use outside builders for their HP parts. GM sends out requests for proposals to build their Bowtie heads. That is why there are so many different phases of Bowties and the related performance differences.
I too have had my fair share of parts quality related difficulties with MP. I actually basically blueprint each piece as it comes out of the box now prior to installation. It really bites when you call in and the guy on the phone doesn't know a thing about internal combustion engines let alone a High Perf Mopar. I trust nobody in the perf world, but I cut my engine builder a little slack. He has seen quite a bit of junk come out of the supposed trick builders/suppliers house. Its like the old addage, measure twice, cut once. |

it,s called OUTSOURCING guys & gals. more profit, no way to control quality or tolerance like the old days.the unions have been fighting this for years. it also costs jobs.D.C. is not the only ones doing it. A few years ago there was a big stink about M.P. rod bolts. there was a story in Chrysler Power mag about a guy who had just finished up a bottom end (Hemi I think).anyway he left for the night, engine on the stand, oil pan not installed.when he came in the next morning a rod bolt had snapped and flew across the shop nut and all-------he never found it! ------later

Just fired up a MP 360 Short block with a big knock in it...I guess installing all the rod bearings isnt required in mexican engines!!!!!
