I'm looking to gather some information, on these so called "Crate engine" classes.....
Who runs them ? Rules ? What times needed to be competitive ? How do the Mopar 360/380 crates fare ? Thanks for any input.

IHRA is the sanctioning body that has "crate motor" classes.I'd check out their website ad see what's up.The Mopar 300Hp 360 I know is very competitive, and I would imagine the 380Hp would be too.I'd run the crate motor class, but there are no IHRA tracks close to my home.We were supposed to have one here in Jacksonville, but the money fell through on the deal.I don't know what car you have, but a 69 Valiant with the 380Hp 360 would work very well in my opinion. There is a guy who runs a 72 Duster with I belive a 300Hp 360 and won a few races last year. His name is Myron Piatek and I belive he lives in Holly Hill Fl.I have also heard of someone running a 65 Belvedere with a 380/360 in the crate motor class.IHRA runs the classes in a regular stock eliminator class formatIf you decide to go for it,keep us posted on whats going on,if you don't mind.

I'll keep you posted, if there is anything to tell.... I was just doing a little mental flirting with the idea. My original ambition, was to go KOS EZ Street racing. But I understand that particular class has been dropped. I can not afford the next level ! Maybe I'll just keep it civilized, and do some normal bracket racing ? The reason I'm looking into this now, is that the body is just about ready to go to the chassis shop..... I need to decide what to have done while it's there i.e... Roll bar, cage, ect..... Guess I'll have to pick up a rule book, for both IHRA & NHRA, and do some reading. It's a '68 Valiant, by the way. And, it looks to me, during my look around yesterday, on the IHRA web site, that they have refactored the 360/380 crate engine down 5 hp... I already have a short block prepared, but it's a long way from being legal for CM racing. Oh well, that's why I have more 360's in the garage. Thanks for your input !
