anybody use the 308 castings on a 360 or 340

to race bracket.did you notice any gains over the head you were using.also on the econo W-2 can you use the valves and springs.waynebo

I replaced mildly pocket ported 2.02/1.60 valve J-heads with out of the box 1.88/1.60 valve 308's about ten years ago. Did this mainly to be able to use unleaded but was kind of worried about the performance since the 308 ports were so much smaller; the intake had a big pushrod hump making the port very narrow, and the exhaust ports were tiny. When i got them bolted on, I couldn't believe it; the car run way better and felt much stronger. The chronodecks confirmed this too, trap speed went from 100 mph to 107 mph and the ET came down accordingly, not bad for a daily driver and made me a big believer in performance heads.
