Has anyone used the 470 kit from Indy? I'm building one right now. I didn't know however, that it uses the 6.385 big block shivvy length rod. I was disappointed, but have been told this combination works great. I'm using the .654 "mini express" mopar cam. I've seen this cam run 10's in a budget 451 motor. I've also been told this cam is "ancient" and should be trashed. What gives? I'm using 2.19,1.88 ported 915's. This should make my 68 valiant run fairly well. Any cam suggestions?

I am building a 496 engine from Muscle Motors and I am going to use Ultrdynes 640 cam in mine you might want to check out some of Ultradynes cams at Ultradyne.com |

On my opinion those ancient cams that have worked in the ancient years hasn't quit working in the modern era. There may or may not be better cams available today, but with those basic parts people run good ET's in the 70's and 80's. There are a lot of people running worse today with modern magic cams and parts.

I wouldn't spend a dime on a cam swap if you already have these components. If you desire to go faster (spend more money) look at upgrading the heads. You can do very little to the 915/906/452 style port and valve configuration that is worth the expense or time invested.

I agree with Dragracerr & DartGT66 on this, if it wont bother you to go fast with the old cam just use it. That cam is actually good enough for a high 9 sec car that weighs under 3300 l

Cam is fine. It seems like once you have a cam that works, yours has and does there isn't any great change by a cam swap. My question is how did you get 2.19 int. 1.88 exh. vales in a 915 head with out shrouding the H out of them, especially on that bore size. We have found we can flow more air with the 2.08 than the 2.14 until we unshroud the valve can't image playing with a 2.19 in that chamber. Best we can get is 285-290cfm and they are thin in areas. Try to find some heads

I'd use the cam you have. The "Mini-Express" cam is a very good cam, makes a bunch of power. The UltraDyne cams ar probably the better ones out today, but only because they don't use mushroom lifters.I still use a bunch of my old "Direct Connection" cams as they still work and unless I actually see where changing will do me some good,I don't.I am going to use the .613 UltraDyne in my 440,but only because I don't have a Mopar cam in that size.
