I have a set of stock connecting rods I'll be putting in my race-only 440. They've been magged, shot-peened and the beam casting lines have been ground off. I'm using M-P high-strength 3/8 rod bolts. The engine will be run on gas, 12:1 compression, no nitrous. What rpm can I expect these rods to endure?

The rods aren't the only thing that dictates max RPM,the rest of the engine combo does as well. But to give you a broad based answer, about 72-7500 is about max,but if you are going to be at that RPM,I'd look into a set of Manley's or Eagle rods. Also change the rod bolts to ARP.

I was told to keep rpm under 7000 with LY rods (magged, shot-peened, polished beams & ARP bolts) in my 440. It had over 400 runs on the rods when I replaced them. The rods did not fail, just felt it was time to change them.

The rpm limit of your rods is related to type or piston and weight you are running, the more the piston weight the less rpm you should run.

The rpm limit of your rods is also affected by the weight of the pistons, the more the piston weight the lower the rpm range should be

I have been running a set of LY rods in my combo since 1993. I would say around 500 runs in the 6500 RPM range & another 125 at 6800. Have them magnufluxed etc. & bolts changed about every 150 / 200 runs during freshen. Using Ross 12.5 /1 light pop ups last 150 & TRW 2295 12.5 / 1 during first 500. Rods have been lightened somewhat, ground & peened & etc. Because of tge extra power lately, will probably go with aftermarket sleel rods next. But. have been very satisfied with the LY rods. Just make sure they are prepped correctly.
