If a person were going to step up the horses,is there a significant advantage to going with the w5 over the w2 besides a weight advantage. It seems like i read one time that the w5 was nothing but an aluminum w2 with rectangle ports.Waynebo

I don't know about the power producing capabilitites, but W5 is something else than just an aluminum W2. There are a lot of differences, but they use the same valvetrain. Battens are aluminum W2's, and they can be had with rect intake ports too.

Mopar sezs: 260 flow for the W-2 &b 265 for the W-5. But look at the port volume 180 to 205. My guess would be that the flow of the W-5 would go up much faster than the w-2 with the installation of a larger valve. But the w-5 is still better out of the box and 50 lbs. lighter, Can't beat that.

I personaly like the W-2's. I have a set of mild ported ones on my 340. On the bench they flowed 271.3 cfm @ 28" at 650 lift on intakes and flowed 216.2 cfm @ 28" at 650 lift on the exhaust. This was with 2.08 intakes and 1.60 exhaust valves. They help my 3400 lb. 65 barracuda run 10.72 at 125.50 MPH. I'm only running it 6500 rpm to do this. It can be seen on my web page. I had a friend who went with W-5's and had to spend about a $1,000.00 more to get what I got with these W-2's. Later!

Go with W-5! I'm not saying W2*s are bad but theres definately more advantages with W5. A lot more hidden power in them. My set flows 290 cfm @28" WITH 2.08" intake with only seat work no porting done. They are a lot easier to repair, you can run one point more compression with same fuel etc. etc. etc.

having had both W-5 AND NOW W-2 HEADS I WOULD GO WITH THE NEW CLOSED CHAMBER W-2 HEAD OVER A W-5 ANY DAY
THE ONLY REAL BENIFIT THE W-5 HAS IS LESS WEIGHT IF YOU NEED MORE POWER THAN THE W-2 HEADS MAKE YOU WILL NEED AN R-3 BLOCK AND SOME W-8 OR W-9 HEADS MY FLAT TOP 360 + .060 MAKES 572 HP @6600 RPM AND 516 LBS TORQUE @ 4800 RPM AND THIS IS WITH A SMALL ROLLER AND MILD PORT WORK WITH MORE CAM AND PORT WORK IT WOULD NOT BE MUCH TO PUSH IT 600 TO 630 HP THE W-5 HEADS ALSO HAVE SOME QUALITY CONTROL PROBLEMS UNLIKE THE W-2 HEADS |
