Red face

I run in sportsman and I footbrake my car. When I had a slower car with 60' times around 2.0 I could leave right when the third yellow came on and I cut .001 to .030
lights. Now my 60' are in the 1.7's and I have to wait and guess or I light that little red one at the bottom, and it's only going to get worse when I install the new 600+ HP 440 that I just built. I'm thinking of going with a stock converter to slow the 60', any Ideas out there?? I'm also thinking of buying some larger diameter front tires. I only have 205-14 radials now.

I HAVE 205/75R14 ON THE FRONT OC MY 71 SCAMP AND I RUN 1.73 60FT AND I HAVE THE SAME RED LIGHT PROBLEM. I AM GOING TO TRY 215/75S THAT SHOULD HELP. IT WILL BE THE SECOND TIME THAT I HAVE TO PUT LARGER FRONT TIRES ON TO STOP RED LIGHTS. IT WORKED THE LAST TIME, SO MAYBE IT WILL WORK AGAIN.

You can also try letting a little air out of the front tires in the meantime, but within reason. No less than 25 or 30lbs. Also try leaving at a lower rpm and just try to stage consistantly as shallow as possible. Adjusting carb squirters and cams may minimize any possible flat spots.

Although a stock converter may slow down your 60' times, it may make your redlights worse because it flashes to and locks-up at a lower rpm! It may also lug your engine down and not be as durable as a performance converter.

A larger tire with more rollout would be the way to go. You should be able to go to a 15" wheel 26" to 27" tall and still have clearance. Larger tire will stay in the beam longer.
