Question

What kind of additive does Kurt have in his fuel? Did you guys see the flames under the car when it backfired as he was turning off of the race track in the finals. It looks to me like the time a friend of mine was using an oxygen enhancer in his race fuel. He put to much in and almost caught the under side of his car on fire. He was using some kind of radio control airplane fuel. it can not be detected in there fuel check test. What does every one think? Later Ed

It looked to me that he clicked it off and was on the brakes pretty hard. Must have some float, needle and seat or fuel pressure problems. Not to say they don't cheat (breaking rules without getting caught), but it is a pretty new setup they're running. It's too bad DA didn't get the first win this year. NEXT RACE!!!!

I asked a friend of mine who works for one of the top Pro stock teams, and what he told me was it's isn't all that uncommon. What happens is after shutting off the motor, fuel gets into the headers, and actually catches fire.

He didn't think it was a big deal, and they are a big competitor of the Johnson's.

there was a big question like this years ago about strange fuel additives. only in the 60's they used a jelly type of nitrometane in the carb bowls that worked great and left nothing in the oil for traces. till someone used too much and it was in bowls at teardown time. the guy was very "grumpy" about being accused of this.never proven, unfortunately.but they did leave tech area pretty fast that day.

The NHRA has gotten very good at looking for additives and nitrous. I don't think anyone wants to take the risk, especially since Uncle Wally has even pulled the cars into the lanes and made them drain all the gas and put in new. I know that the racers are "industrious", but the NHRA ain't stupid either.

If they're hiding any "funny stuff" this season, it's not in the fuel.

Like I said in an earlier post, I don't think that ball of fire was a problem on Kurt's car.

If my friend thought in the least bit that it was a problem, he would have said so.

They moved the fuel cell's to the front this season, so NHRA can see the entire fuel system.

The do also pull the cars to the line, drain out all of the fuel, and refill it in the staging lanes.

If someone is cheating, they're doing it in another area.

Anyone remember when Shepard got busted putting nitro in his oil and running single ring pistons so the oil would leak up into the cylinders?

Yep.

On a side note, the late Lee Shepard is one of Darrell Alderman's idol's.

I got to be good friends with Darrell's daughter Dara, and she told me his office at work has pictures of Lee all over the place.

He wasn't lying in that ND interview where he said that is his idol. Lee always has been.

I haven't talked to Dara in a while. If your reading this Dara, email me at prostock@usa.net.

Ive heard all kinds of terminology for this. I believe the most common is "Header Flash" and I believe thats all it was. Unspent fuel making contact with an extremely hot surface....,POW ! ! ! ,"Header Flash"
Phoenix should be interesting !
