I dont suppose anyone knows what it actually costs to build a PT cruiser. I heard they are made in Mexico--can you guess what they pay the poor Mexican laborer to build this car. I bet they build this car for under 3000 thousand bucks, then ship it to the states with a huge markeup to 16,800 dollars. Nothing like good ole American greed. There are no more bargains nowadays-the good days are over. bruce

I think it was at least designed here.
As far as the price, compared to other similar sized and equipped cars/wagons/suv's, they are priced pretty reasonably. The nuts that are paying $4000 to $6000 over sticker make that more apparent. |

Bruce, assembly is a minor cost. Product R&D, auto design, parts design/manufacturing, transportation, dealership markup, and especially advertising, public relations, auto shows, and other related sales/marketing expenses also contribute to what we buy when we buy a PT Cruiser.
All of us can pay more, if we wish. Want to kick in another $5000 to have your PT made here? We may need to if the rumor of a Michigan plant is true. [This message has been edited by MrGreenjeans (edited May 26, 2000).] |
