I was wondering what the opinion is for a carb. I have a 4200 lbs.newport with 10:1 440. hughes stage 1 heads ported with big valves, ported edelbrock rpm, 1.6 roller rockers for a camshaft of 223.230 @ 540/550 lift. 2 1/2 exhaust, 3000 stall, 3.91 rear. this is a street car but have always had good luck with holley dp on this car with 383. vacuum or dp and what size? thanks, chris

I think 650 is actually too small for a mild 440. The 3310 Holley is very versatile and should have enough flow for about 5500-6000 rpm. I would use that with a light secondary spring, yellow or white, to get the secondaries open sooner. You have enough converter and gear for even a double pumper but they are more sensitive for exactly correct adjustments; if you are ready for some fine tuning you could as well use a 750 dp. Personally I have had good luck with vacuum secondary carbs in such heavy cars.

For what it's worth....
Most BB's came with damn near an 800cfm TQ from the factory. IOTW - 600 is too small. ART |

I'd use the carb off of the 383 you had,especially if it's a 750 Holley.That's what I use.

Edelbrock 750 or the new 800 for street manners.Demon 850 for performance. The Demon's give the most" bang for the buck" in my opinion.Vac secondaries or afb style carb's will give you no bog and better gas milage.double pumpers you will probobly have to work with to eliminate bogging and generaly get worse gas milage but are better for race situations. You can go alot larger with a vac./air door style carb.it's only opening as needed were a dp is opening with whatever your foot says.
