CPPA/TTI under-chassis headers. Better fit with 383 or 400, major bit*h with the 440. Very involved installation and get ready to fork out $500.00. I bought mine from Ray Barton. Switch projects - sold 'em.
But they are cool as cool can be, made of heavy wall tubing, offer the most ground clearance, good plug access, and did I mention they are cool. |

Rex jr - Try Schumacher's Tri-Y headers. They are supposed to be good. I have 2" CPPA's in mine, which I like.......until the starter needs replacing. Then I hate them. I've heard that a standard starter with a Summit heat sheild is the fix, which is what I'm trying next. Good luck whichever way you go!

Schumachers are great unless you want to make some power. CPPA is the only way to have 2" Primaries and completely under chassis, with no firewall mods. It seems everybody on this site does not like them, but my brother has them in an E-body with no complaints. They are going for $549 now. In a few months I will let everybody know how they have worked out for me!

Just a note that CCPA/TTI also makes a 1 3/4 inch big block A header that would fit a little easier than the 2 inchers.

SJS440 - I like my CPPA's! I just need to find a GOOD starter fix. I don't think the Schumacher tri-Y will make as much power.
Use Jacobs 90 degree ceramic spark plug boots with your CPPA's and save yourself some grief. My plug boots would blow out about once a month without them. And I mean BLOW OUT! Also - A body CPPA's shouldn't try to run the second generation mini starter. Take it from me. ------------------ Tubbed 40 Plymouth Coupe Tubbed 71 Demon 1989 Shelby Lancer 1978 BB ClubCab 1973 Scamper 440 MHome |

Rex,
I have the CPPA under chassis headers on both my 440 Darts, 1 dart has the 1 3/4" tubes with 906 heads and the other has 2" tubes with Indy SR heads and both work fine. I have not tried any other brand. |

I have used the 2" CPPA's and didn't like them at all. They are a pain to install, plug access is terrible; impossible with aftermarket heads, and they are not too good for power. The turns put of the heads are very steep and there is the spark plug dogleg just after that. In my case the MP first generation mini starter did not fit with them, I had to use the conventional mopar starter. The shortest primary in the CPPA's was about 20" and the longest about 40", so they are in no way equal or tuned length headers. They are better for power than manifolds, but nowhere near real headers. I think the Schumachers could be equal powerwise, and they do not have the odds of the CPPA's, except the price. I really hated the CPPA's, with an EFI you had to switch plug wires everytime after you had stepped on it. I fought with them for one year trying every insulator in the plug wires I could imagine, except the Jacobs ceramics. And at least I can tell that nothing else worked. I switched to fenderwells and have not looked back.
