i am putting a 440 in my 70 satellite and want to put better heads on the engine. it is a 73 440 and does not have 906 heads. a friend has a set of 452 heads which he said are the same as 906's but with hardened seats. is this true? if so what are they worth?

These are not the same heads. In one of the Mopar Mags last year I read that the 452's flowed just slightly better that the 906's ON THE EXHAUST side. A little less on the intake side. I have run both on my 4x4 truck and with my setup (272/.455" MP cam, headers, TQ and Ebrock intake. There was little difference with both in stock form.

Just use the 346 heads that came on your 73 motor. Stock, you won't notice the difference between them and 906's. Ported, they work better.

Both #906 and #452 are good STOCK heads. #906 is a little better on paper, but no drastical difference, I suppose.
#452 heads have got hardened seats. You will lose the hardening if you have to machine the valve seats. So the heads should be pretty good to start with, otherwise pick up #906´s. Just my 2 cents ;- |

My 2 cents are like always buy th Mopar Performance Template portingpackage for stock heads and port the 452 or 346 heads and use those in the long run the 906 have a limiting casting problem which the later castings dont. if you have the 452's use them with the porting templates and do a good 3 angle valve job on them with 30/45/75 angles. This will flow quite abit out of those heads and allow for more performance mods later on without having to worry about flow problems.
