The following story was in an old issue of "Stock Car Racing" magazine and I would like to share it with all of you. At a local 1/4 mile oval track one Saturday night, one of the male racefans girlfriend wasn't feeling well so she decided to leave the track and go sit in their car in the parking lot to rest. Once she was in the car she turned on the cars tape player to some classical music and turned up the volume to drown out the sound of the racecars and layed back in the seat to rest. A few heat races later, one of the drivers in the modified division jumped the tire of another car as he was going into the turn and cleared the concrete wall. The momentum carried his car right thru the tire fence and the car did several barrel rolls as it flipped right out of the track and out into the parking lot. The race car came to rest upside down, wedged between two cars parked in the parking lot and only one car away from where the girlfriend was resting in her boyfriends car. Upon hearing the impact, the girlfriend jumped out of the car and ran, fearing a fire. She left the car door open and the tape player running. The race car driver, shaken up and dazed but not seriously injured was hanging in his seatbelts upside down. The racecar was completely dark, being wedged between the two cars in the parking lot. The dazed driver, feeling like he was floating due to his upside down position, being totally in the dark and hearing the classical music blaring from the car that had been abandoned by the girlfriend was totally convinced that he had died in the crash and was on his way to Heaven. When track workers arrived at the scene and shone flashlights into the front window of the upside down racecar to check on the drivers condition, it only further convinced the dazed and confused driver that he had perished in the crash as he saw only the blinding light coming toward him. After getting the driver out of the wrecked racecar, it took several minutes of convincing from the ambulance personel to get the driver to believe he wasn't really dead. Just an interesting story to retell.
