Angry

Some people get on my nerves. Tonight I was gassing up my truck and on the other side of the pump was a new bone stock Dakota 2x4 with a 3.9 and the stereo was booming loudly. A young kid (teenager) gets in and takes off like a bat out of he!!. The tires are spinning and the motor is revving like its gonna pop the heads off. Waht burned me up is that is was a brand new truck. If I owned that I wouldn't be doing stupid $h!t like that!! I don't understand why some people drive that way ALL the time. Don't they understand that at some point something major is going to happen? I have a friend who is like that. He's killed quite a few cars. I don't get it

That's EXACTLY what I was thinkin!!! I knew a girl in highschool that had divorced parents. She lived with her mother but her daddy bought her cars. She recked 2 cars because she couldn't drive and each time she got a new one. Some people just don't know what hard work is!

He won't blow it up. I have beat my 3.9 Dakota like a borrowed mule since I got it in 92 and didn't have any problems until 86,000 miles. The rearend went out (too many burnouts) I have been told that those rearends don't usually last much longer than that anyways though.
As far as the "Mommy and Daddy" part, If it's brand new then it is under warranty and has fool coverage insurance. Besides, You aren't making the payments on it are you?
I bought my SS/T all by myself and am still making payments on it and paying for insurance all by myself. I drive it like I stole it because that is what I wanted it for. I don't treat it any different from anything else I've owned.
As for the stereo though. He deserves to be slapped around for that. If you wanted to listen to his music you would buy the CD right?? Some things don't need to be shared and your cars stereo is one of them.

To each his/her own. I bought my truck for $4,000 with 87,000 miles and have invested almost $7,000 keeping it maintained for almost 5 years(as I pointed out to my folks, cheaper than buying new). My truck now has 166,000+ with original trans, motor, and rearend. I pay for my own insurance. I depend on my truck heavily, and for me, beating it is not an option. In the future when I get another old Ram I plan on geting that suped up and beating on that real good, but I'll make sure it has excellent H/P parts that can take it. As I said, To each his/her own. Right about the radio. I can't stand that. As for my buddy the car killer: 1993 Nissan Pickup(blew the tranny),1991 Chevy Celebrity Wagon(blew the motor),1984 Chevy Caprice Estate Wagon(broke the rear end off the frame),1986 Chevy Caprice Estate(ripped off the exhaust and then blew the tranny). This guy has a bad gift but I do see a pattern but again to each his/her own. Still makes me mad though.

Probably right too. I've yet to see a vehicle that is indestructible. Motors Tranny's and the lot can only take so much. If they don't buy a new one they will get it fixed and then wonder why it broke. They won't buy a dodge ever again and they'll pass the word on to others that dodge is crap because their idiot son blew something up on that poor truck. If I ever catch my kid(s)(hopefully just 1) doing anything like that I'll chain their damn car to a tree!!

I have found that also. A very tough motor. I too have run it to extreme temps on occasion and have had low oil not knowing it while putting it to the hard work it does. Very good motor in my truck. It has high miles but still runs great. And no some people don't learn, EVER!

I knew of a guy with a 3.9 that thought he would blow it up so his wife would let him get a V8. He started it and just left his foot on the floor. He finally gave up and took a cutting torch to it so it would look like it blew up. I know he isn't too bright, but it does say a little something for those engines. I got stranded in NorthDakota and was trying to get out of three feet of snow in my two wheel drive Dakota. I let it bounce the rev limiter constantly until it started to overheat and it was about 20 below at the time. I guarantee I would have blown a Chevy under the same conditions. They are incredibly tough engines.

My truck has convinced me that they are one of the BEST engines made. There is a lot of hype about the older 318 motors being reliable in my style truck but people seem to forget the 3.9 and 3.7 is also a pickup motor and I have not heard anything bad about them except that the stock timing chains (3.9) get loose and lsack off after a while, and even with that bad they still keeping running!! As for Chevy,

At some point I've owned a 5.2 and 3.7 and the 3.9. All were very good motors but I have been happiest with my 3.9. My first dodge was a 1981 Ram D150 custom SWB I had it 3 months. It was totally wrecked though. The box was falling off, the seat was collapsed both bumpers were bent, a taillight was smashed, the grill was broken. Pretty junky but it had a slant and it was a good motor for the 4 months I had it. My RamCharger had a 5.2. At one point I was contemplating putting that motor in my truck be decided it would be a step down since the motor was older and had a carb. I'm glad I left it alone. My 3.9 in my pickup has proven to be an excellent motor.

Buddy of mine is a salesman at a local Dodge dealership, had a brandie new Dodge Intrepid R/T in, 6000mi, and a blown engine. Do dealerships still tell people to take it easy for the first few thousand miles to break in the engine, or has that common sense gone the way of the do-do...

I really don't think they do but if you read the owners manual it explains everything in detail. Too many people want to go out and run it hard as soon as they get it. I tried to get the 500mile break in done on my Dak the first night, Took me two days though...LOL I've beat on it ever since with no problems from the engine. It has never even leaked a drop of oil.

I think the manual may say something about that but I don't know too many people that follow it unless there are some specific instructions that must be done.

I am pretty sure mine said NO floorboarding in first gear and vary your speed for the first 500 miles or words to that effect.
