I was just thinking about some of the things I've heard from people in the past and was wondering if I'm the only one surrounded by Idiots (Bowtie fans)

Here are some of the stupidest things I've ever been told: "If you put 350heads on a 305 then it's a 350"..."It's a bigblock 350"...."There's no difference between any 350 ever made and any other, they are all the same"..."My flexfan forces more air into the engine and makes about 20hp"..."383's are chevy engines aren't they?"...."The 454 is the biggest engine ever built!!"..."I have a good friend with a 57 Camaro"..."It was the most powerful engine I ever saw, It had chrome everywhere!!"...."Your van ain't no 3/4ton, it says that on the registration cause that's how much it weighs!!"

Anyways, Anyone else ever had to deal with these "experts"

My truck is twice as loud as yours, therefore it is twice as powerful.
Also know a kid with a V-6 Crustang that claims he's gonna mod it out so that it will "basically be a V8 Saleen Mustang". I politely told him that he's a f***ing idiot.

This one kinda pissed me off, I was sitting in my SS/T at the time. "Nice truck, my buddy had one just like it, It had the high output 360 though!" I like the way options are thrown about on vehicles that have almost no options(like the SS/T with only 1 available engine)

Another good one "I went with a friend and test drove a Viper, they let us drive one of the ones with the 360 since they didn't have any 10cylinder ones on the lot. Almost all Vipers have 360s though, most people just don't know that"......If I hadn't been bangin his sister I wouldn't have been able to stand him at all....LOL

I knew a guy with a v-6 camaro which he believed had 380 horsepower stock (he actually believed it). The same guy said there's no way my friends neon could be runnin 13's because it's a 4 cylinder adn that even though he had 380 Hp, he wouldn't be able to beat my truck because I had two more cylinders.

Also, a guy I knew back in high school said this about my 93 ram, "I don't care if you put a hemi in that truck, there's no way it could beat a mustang gt"

Another good one, My mom and I were looking at a 68 Camaro and she asks the guy what engine it has in it. He says "Oh, it's a 350 bored out to a 302!!"
He started arguing with her about it and she explained that engine displacement is determined by stroke and bore and that boring it out won't make it smaller, He looked real confused and then finally broke down and said "I don't know mam, I'm just tryin to sell the car for a buddy of mine"

Some kid I couldn't stand bought the car and blew the 350/302 in the first two weeks he had it..LOL

A lady I work with drives a 98 Mustang Convertible with a V6.

One day during lunch I asked her why she didn't get a GT.

Her reply "The Mustang GT has a shorter wheelbase so it won't handle as well in the winter".

One of the few times I actually got through on the Mopar Performance tech line, the moron tried to tell me a 268 degree Purple Shaft for a Slant Six had 241 degrees at .050", and a 276 degree P.S. had 235 at 50! Totally backwards. And those are the degrees at 50 for bigger cams, like 284's and 292's! At least on the old, outdated, and currently available Puple Shaft profiles.

Guy told me he had a truck just like mine, when he was in the army, it had a 350.............
A 350? You mean a 360?
No, a 350............
You sure? They never made a 350, since 56....................
Yeah they did, it came with a 350, the 350 was a special motor for camper trucks, like yours.

My truck is a 74 D300..................

Actually, 1958 was the only year.

[B] "350 "B" Engine

1958 • 4.06" bore x 3.38" stroke
It may be hard to believe, but Chrysler built a 350 V8 some 9 years before the "Brand X" 350 arrived. The 1-year-only engine was considered a little brother to the 361. The Dodge Ram Fire version with single 4-bbl made 295 horsepower, while Plymouth's Golden Commando made 305 hp using two Carter 4-bbls."[/B

Default Man, this thread is funny!

I overheard two guys at an icecream stand discussing which was better old Corvettes or new ones. One liked the new ones because they are all supercharged.

A father and son was looking at my '73 Challenger, considering whether to buy it and the boy said, "I'd like to get this and put a 5.0 liter in it. I'll bet that would make it fast!"

I actually heard a guy say that one time his '57 Plymouth "got so hot that the spark plugs melted and ran down into the holes!".

He made the mistake of telling that story to a group of very accomplished BS artists. Now, forty years later, some of us "artists" occasionally get together for a glass of tea (or a glass of something) and the subject of Old Nick's amazing fifty seven usually comes up.

Friends dad had a 327 in a pickup that had the pan ripped off when it hit a rock, the only reason it didnt seize was that "it was raining and the water kept the crank cool".

About a year or two ago I'd gone to the James Dean Festival with my Parents and Sister and there was somebody there with some kind of depression era Mopar "5 window" highboy coupe that had bright yellow paint and a Long Ram equiped B motor in it! Dad went up and asked the guy what he had for a motor in the thing. Next thing I know Dad starts walking back to me and just shaking his head. He asked the car's owner which motor it had, and the guy said it had a 383, so Dad asked if it was a low block or a tall block (as in B or RB), the guy answered small block!

There there's a former co-worker I had that was told by a classmate that his dad had a Dakota that has a factory installed 408ci motor, he figured the kid was full of it or just stupid, but still asked me just to be on the safe side. I told him the largest motor offered was the 5.9/360 in the R/T and other than that it was just the 5.2/318 or the 4.7l like his '99 WJ GC has, but I told him that I thought there was way to get 408 inches out of an LA motor.

When I was in high school, my dad bought a new 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix. The brakes were never the best (not power) and he complained about it. The dealer bored out the master cylinder and installed a larger piston. In truth, I have never heard of that procedure, especially at a dealer level. Maybe they put on a master cylinder with a larger bore, but my dad came home with better brakes and he said they bored out the master cylinder.

Anyway, I was telling a friend of mine (who's father was a Ford Sales Manager and raced Fords at the strip) about the change done to my dad's car.

He then asked me, "Is the master cylinder the one closest to the crankshaft?"

In later years, this kid went on to fill his dad's shoes and he became quite a formidable racer running Fords in S/S. I remember seeing a bit about his career on TV.

Today he owns a Ford Dealership and his sons work for him.

Thousands of dollars of bad advise

My 98 3.9 automatic had a long running mild surge, on cruise, as the torque converter un-locked and re-locked. Three Dodge dealers and two transmission shops, including the Mr. Big, said I needed a new transmission.

I checked with the tech at Amsoil's Oil Analyzers, and he said there was no mechanical problem; that, in fact the wear metals were unusually low.
526,000 miles later that same transmission still runs fine, with the addition of new solenoids at 400K.

The problem? Bad throttle position sender.
