I read the other day in the news about a bunch more top execs from Chrysler leaving, and some Germans coming over to replace them. The handwriting is clear... Daimler has no clue. It was the PEOPLE who made Chrysler a roaring success at producing wonderful cars people liked... Daimler bought Chrysler in order to get that creativity. Now they've chased it off, and are desperately trying to make Chrysler into Daimler USA - a horrible mistake.
But, that being what it is... I expect Daimler to be trying to rid itself of a division that has lost all it's market share, management, and is losing money hand over fist in about 5 to 7 years... The Chrysler division, that is. The Germans, with thier infinite capacity for arrogance, will be utterly unable to figure out why they bought an immensely profitable and growing company and then it died. So, I predict they'll be trying to sell it off soon... Anyone care to speculate if some Uncle Lido or Tom Gale types will band together and buy it? Make Chrysler back into an American car company? Without the Germans's meddling, the company was very capable and energetic. It could be done again... Besides, since I refuse to buy a Daimlerized Chrysler... I'm gonna be in trouble in about 30 years. I mean, just how long am I gonna be able to drive my REAL Mopars? It would be a sad day indeed, if I had to buy a brand X or an import, just to have wheels I could keep running. ------------------ Check out Turbo Register - www.turbodieselregister.com Land Speed Record attempt: www.my2kcity.com/lsr I own only mopars, always mopars, always will. |

Exactly, Gold Duster! Thanks for that observation, That has been one thing that has been overlooked since this whole mess began, Where did the people buying Plymouths go? Isn't it obvious now that killing off a brand name that dates back to 1928 was utterly stupid? Why couldn't one, just one higher Chrysler exec have asked themselves, Do we know for sure the Plymouth buyers will want a Dodge or Chrysler? Killing off their economy class sales leader is just one of many mistakes made over the past few years. I bet they wouldn't mind having some of those missing Plymouth sales back. I'm just glad the suits aren't the ones doing the engineering.

Found this on the DaimlerChrysler web site
FYI Daily News - 01/03/2001 Schrempp Says Chrysler Group Will Be Back On Its Feet in 2005 Auburn Hills, 01/03/2001 - The Chrysler Group should be back on its feet with American leadership by 2005, DaimlerChrysler Chairman Jürgen Schrempp told a German newspaper. He also said it would be inexcusable to even think about selling Chrysler, but that it will take between two to four years to complete the restructuring. Schrempp adds that he has always said it is the goal to have American management again at Chrysler one day |

Not to defend the "Germans" the Plymouth nameplate was dying long before the merger. Why wasn't there a Plymouth version of the LH car? Why did it take so long for the Breeze to be introduced? Why do [or did up here at least] the Plymouth and Dodge Neons look alike?
We could "cry in our beer" all we want and say we are not buying another DaimlerChrysler car again, but it wasn't us who made the merger. It was the shareholders. Lets just hope they figure things out before it's too late. |

I see your point, speedwobble, but why does everyone talk like the death of Plymouth was some natural occurence? It was a deliberate act. At the end, Plymouth only consisted of a base model Neon,a base model minivan, and an ultra expensive Prowler, not exactly the line up for a long business life and lots of customers, don't ya think? Would McDonalds only offer 3 sandwiches and expect to stay profitable? Someone at Chrysler, yes, long before the merger, decided that weakening Plymouth would somehow strengthen Chrysler and especially, Dodge. Problem is, they were wrong. Plymouth dying before the merger? Intentionally killed off, is more like it. Just another typical bad business decision made by a company known for excellent engineering, but can't blame Daimler for this one. I just hope someone at Mopar has the bravery and the sense to bring back the nameplate, before a large portion of Plymouth owners go elsewhere, for good. Some already have. By the way, can't see where the discontinuation of Plymouth has helped the stock price or anything else, the way things are now. I don't think Dodge has gotten to sell more cars with Plymouth gone, I just think Mopar now sells less cars now then they did before. Fix it before it's too late, Chrysler, or whoever is in charge. Cheapening Dodge to take Plymouth's place was a bad idea anyway.

The Chrysler stockholders need to try to reverse this whole merger deal if they can, and make Dumbler-Benz pay back what they stole. Reinstate Plymouth and keep the NASCAR thing going. Chrysler never needed Benz in the first place. I saw 'Saving Private Ryan' on cable tv last night. Maybe Jergy Shrimp's trying to get revenge for that?
