Question

I've got an MP distributer in my 71 383 and want a quicker advance curve.I've heard these lower compression 383's like to have the advance in quick.I was told to pull out the heavier spring.Has anyone done this without putting in another spring? Will that give me to quick of a curve? The motor is in a 71 Roadrunner, 3.55's, auto. Thanks!

Jeremy:
Removing the larger spring affects the curve in a negative way. Mopar Performance offers a light spring kit that quickens the curve for high performance and racing applications. Is there a particular reason for wanting to recurve your distributor? Wedgehead

You can take the heavier spring out, and leave the other weight without spring. this doesn't quicken the curve much, but it gives you full advance at about 2500 rpm while the out of the box set up still advances the timing at over 5000 rpm. MP sells quick advance spring set, but they are pretty soft giving full advance at around 1000 rpm. There are advance spring kits available for chevys and fords that are pretty inexpensive; you could buy a set and do some trial and error tuning.

Wedgehead, I want a more advance since I heard that the lower compression 383's run a little quicker when it's in quick.I'll take anyone's comment's on this.I read it in one of the mags a while back. I believe the guy recommended having it all in around 2500-3000.
