Could someone tell me the procedure for adjusting (setting) the timing on my 1996 dodge ram 5.2l (318). P.S. I do have timing light.

According to my 95 and 99 Ram service manuals the ignition timing is NOT adjustable on any engine, and warns not to attempt to adjust timing by rotating the distributor. Timing is controlled by the PCM (computer). It looks like turning the distributor can also mess up fuel synchronizing. I'll have to dig deeper into the manuals to see exactly what happens.

The timing is fixed on these engines. A magnetic pickup in the bellhousing reads a notch in the flywheel/torque converter and sends a signal to the computer. The distributor just "distributes" the spark to the proper cylinder.

Thanks for the info. Don't have a problem with the timing but was just curious as to whether it was adjustable or not.
