I have a 1977 Plymouth Trailduster 4x4 that I will be putting a 360 in. I know this is a pretty common engine but my plan is to rebuild it with better than stock performance in mind. Does any one know where I can get some direction in this matter? Like an old article in 4 wheel and off road for example, or does any one have time to tell me how to get better than stock perfomance. More than willing to listen. Plan on intake manifold and carb change as well as adding headers and some performance ignition stuff too. If heads need updating as well? Looking for experience so I wont have to tear into it again sooner than later. Thanks

Bucket, what type of performance are you looking for? Assuming that you want to keep your streetability, you probably want to stick with the 1.88/1.60 valve heads. Have them cleaned up and a 3-angle valve job on them. Get a good low rpm torque cam, like a mopar P4452759. Go with a old 340 cast iron manifold and a 4-barrel. As for the block and lower assembly. Mopar offers the old "LA" style shortblocks for a reasonable price. With your heads cut .030" you should be in the 9.0:1 CR range. This would be a decent step up from stock with headers and dual exhaust. good luck.

You will get a million different answers to a question that broad. I would recomend that you buy mopar performances small block "A" engine book, PN# P4876826, and let the mopar pros walk you thrue whatever level you want to build to.
