I have a 1987 Limited Edition 250 Power Ram.
The temperature gauge maxs out when the engine temperature is cold and stays there when the engine is warmed up. It is not overheating. I disconnected the sensor at the intake manifold and the gauge still is at its max. Funny thing is that the fuel and oil pressure gauges also rise above their normal readings. Any ideas? Please e-mail me. |

Check for a bad voltage limiter on the back of the instrument cluster.Mopar uses it to stepdown the power from 12v to I think 4.5-5v.It's a usually silver box about 1x1 1/2" in diameter.

I had a problem similar to that with my 85 RamCharger. My temp, volt and oil pressure gauge would read really erractic or high. It turned out it was broken ground on my battery cable. My alternator ended up overcharging the battery and it blew up. Replaced the battery cables with the proper ones (along with the battery) and it fixed the problem.
Just a suggestion |
