Is there a way to raise the top speed on a Ram without having to spend $300 on a computer reprogrammer. And what are some cheap, but decent, performance mods that can add up to make some more power for my truck. I'm new in the world of Dodge trucks, so any info would be helpful. thanks.

Well I don't know how to get your top speed up without reprogramming the computer, but I do know some cheap mods for ya. First, K&N Gen II filter kit. Gets me an extra 35hp on my 5.9L. Cat back exaust, using a flow master muffler or something just as good.
After that things get a little more pricey. Headers, the R/T kit (see other topics about it) New Pullies, going too duel electric fans, MSD ignition, and lastly Super charging it. All that will get you dam close to 400hp if not over. Hope this helps Tony |

Thanks Tony. I appreciate the tips. I was also wondering who would be a good company to look to for a performance chip? I can't use that Mopar Computer because I use a trailer for my lawn service too much. I have looked at SuperChips, JET, and Hypertech. Which would you suggest? Thanks. Joseph

you could probably put a switch in line with the speed sensor, shut it off & the limiter will go away but no cruise. A friend did it on a daytona & I pegged the speedo & got stopped for 130mph

The best computer mod for the Ram (I found) is made by Mopar. I've had bad luck with Jet Performance. I put their computer in my 99 Ram 4x4 5.9 and the tach would rise to 2k down to 500 rpm at a stand still. I tried everything from wiggling it to running w/o it for 1k miles and reinstalling it and yet it did the same thing. I had a Mopar puter in my old truck, 94 Ram 4x4 5.2, with awesome results. I am waiting for Mopar to approve the new puter for California emissions before it will be available for the 99 Ram. Back to the main topic, I heard Hypertech made a good reprogrammer for the Ram also but never played with it. Hope that helps.

I have had bad luck with Jet chip too. Basically noticed no change. The Air Raid system seemed to work very well. Coupled with the MOPAR computer, that would probably be a great combo!

I finally got my Keene Bell catalog in and they have their own version - called the "Optimizer" - but I think it's around 600 bucks. I have heard only good things about it (and that was before I read the catalog) - they claim a quick 25 HP added with their unit.
Just my .02 "Good luck on your project." |

I'VE ACTUALLY USED JET MODULES IN 2 OF MY VEHICLES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I'M SORRY TO HEAR THAT FROM YOU OTHER GUYS. I HAVE ONE IN MY 98 5.9 GRAND CHEROKEE & MY FORMER 5.2 DODGE. I NOW HAVE A SUPERCHARGED V-10 2500 QC BUT AM STILL OPTIMIZING MY OEM COMPUTER.
