I just purchased this system for my 99 Ram 1500 Sport with a 5.2/auto. It was about 250 bucks, but it's construction is really nice. It is a sealed unit using outside air from the original factory fender well, and it also has a provision/option for a ram air setup already cut out in the front of the air box. I did notice a improvement the the throttle response/power with this system, however, I am not totally thrilled with the fit of it. I believe that the unit I received was improperly cast when it was made and it does not fit the throttle body the way I feel it should. (I am calling the place I got it from on Monday) I went with this vs. the K & N cause the K & N is an open unit which breathes the "hot" engine air and does not stay clean as long. In "theory", this one made more sense for a daily ride, but who knows. Anyway, I am a new member to this chat room and am very impressed with this site and have found out alot of great info. Just wondering, anyone else use this system or even heard of it??

I had the Volant system for 2 weeks...and returned it, was the biggest POS I've seen.
Went with the K&N Gen II which was a perfect fit. The Gen II has a heat shield to protect the intake from the engine heat. Works fantastic. Proves the point....go with a name brand. |

I put together a "home depot special" ram air system using the stock air box, and I found out two things:
1. Ram air is not worth much until you are going 100+ mph. The theory is around 1.5% increase at 100 mph. Like you said, this isn't much good for running aroung town. 2. Cold air is worth much more. Theory says that you get 1.5% H.P. increase for every 11 degrees of temperature drop. However, I think that the factory air intake was well placed. It draws air from behind the right headlight, and I think air came into this area from under the air dam anyway. I saw very little improvement from drawing air directly from the grill. In the end, I plan to invest in the K&N Gen II, which draws air from the same general area as the stock air box, but has much smoother flow. In addition I will either cut a hole in, or remove the fiber-material that closes the hole between the radiator and the head light. This should ensure that cold air comes directly into the filter. |

I have a K&N Gen II air cleaner on my 98 1500 Club Cab. I saw a 2 to 3 tenths reduction in 1/4 E.T. using my G-Tech. I didn't notice any increase in fuel milage, but I was looking for more performance anyway. The sound alone makes the truck feel faster. It sounds like a good Mopar should. A deep induction roar. You've got to love it. I recomend the K&N. I am changing all my cars over to K&N filters. I put one on my 91 Spirit with a TBI 2.5. It picked up a nice induction roar and about the same 3 tenths of a second, and about 1 mph. I was impressed.

Well, the company that sold me the product is sending me new pieces so I can re-install this on my truck for a perfect fit. If I am not satisfied then, I am sending it back and getting the K & N. It seems that everyone on this site uses the K & N system and is happy with it.
Thanks for the feed back, Mike |

I put the K&N FIPK on my truck and have been very happy with it. I have noticed an average 1.8 MPG increase. Yes, I am anal and track the gas milage of my truck with every fillup.
