i have a 76 or 77 440 from a new yorker , i wanted to know if it would have a mechanical cam , or hydralic ? how do you tell without ripping the intake and valley covor and stuff off? also what is the best street carb for the engine , delivering maximum horsepower ,with good fuel economy ?

If the motor in question is stock it would have to be hydrolic. If someone has swapped in a mechanical you can pull a valve cover and see if it has adjustable rocker arms. For street manners and good performance I would recommend a Carter or edelbrock 750.With the electric choke these give good milage and are pretty much hassle free.
