I have a 98 Ram 1500 with a 9 ¼ differential, with a Trac-Loc. From the service manual I see that this is a clutch type differential. The problem I am having is its not very positive. I am use to the Power Lock in my Challenger. If you put one tire in gravel or dirt and the other on the road and nail it, it will spin the one on the pavement too. This is my second winter with my Ram and if you dont baby it on slippery roads it will spin one tire. The Trac-Loc is easily overpowered. Last winter I had it back to the dealer. They showed me a procedure to check the differential. It had to take more than 30 ft-lbs without differentiating. It passed, but I still dont like it. I would like it tighter. Any one out there have any experience with this unit? Any way the tighten it up?

Dodgeman,
Having the same thing with my 97. Took it to the dealership three times and they said it passed Chryslers wet and dry tests each time. The one thing I have noticed is that at the track it has always seemed to lock up. SJS440 |

I don't know how to "fix" the unit in your truck but there is a company that makes what they call a Lock Right system you may be interested in. Go to Powertrax.com and give it a look. I'm ordering one for my `96 dually and if it works like they say I may put one in the front end as well.
