Has anyone ever installed a MSD Ignition on a 5.9 Ram 4x4 ? If so, how hard was it and did it help the performace or the ping?

I don't have a 4x4 Ram, but I did install a MSD 6AL w/Blaster SS coil on my 2wd Ram. I noticed a smoother idle and only marginal mileage improvements.Highway I increased by 1 mpg,in-town increased by 2 mpg, still better than a sharp stick in the eye. I would suggest opening the factory spark plug gap from .035 to .045 after the installation to get the maxmum benefit. Also, get the 8.5mm Super Conductor wires from MSD...well worth it and they look great! Also, expect to spend approximately 2.5 hours installation time.
As for the pinging, I think all Ram owners experience this at some point. I found that by changing to a 180 degree thermostat eliminates 90% of the pinging. To finish it off, install new spark plugs one range colder than stock. You'll also pick up some extra ponies! |
