Here's the results of some testing I did yesterday on a K & N Gen II system I've installed on my 95' 5.9 liter Ram.
I made two runs with the old air intake box and two runs with the K & N Gen II air intake. Here's the average of the runs. Factory Air Intake = 15.428, 86.99 MPH K & N Gen II = 15.320, 88.08 MPH The following mods have been made to my truck: MP Headers, exhaust, cam, valve springs and computer, underdrive pulleys, Crane roller rockers and push rods, and MSD ignition controller. Anyone else experienced simular results? HV [This message has been edited by hemivaliant (edited January 09, 2000).] |

I saw almost a 3 tenths inprovement with the K & N Gen II on my 98 Club Cab. It's stock except for the K & N. Maybe thats why I am seeing a little more out of it. I will say that I think it's great. Lots of induction roar too.

My kid brother got me a K&N FIPK for Christmas...Love it!!! I haven't checked any numbers on it, but makes a big difference in the mid range power.

Hemi! Did you do this test at a strip? Stock airbox passes first? Cooldowns between passes the same? Weather conditions change during your test? Those 2 things alone can make a couple of tenths difference on a truck.
Most people usually do the K&N as a first mod. In that situation it will usually give .20-.30 If done later on I don't think it yeilds as much. BLAIR@WOT 14.49@93.40 RM Indy |

RM Indy,
Yes the test was done at a drag strip, Pomona Raceway home of the NHRA Winter Nats and NHRA Finals. I did the test with the K & N airbox first. Outside air temp. only varied about 5 degrees from the first to the last run. There was a cool down period between each run. First run was around 10:00 am, 2nd 11:30 am, third 1:00pm and forth at 2:30pm. Yes the 5 degrees difference could of affected my times some. Each time I made a run I made sure each one was the same as far as stall speed, staging, leaving it in drive, having overdrive off, etc. HV p.s. Very impressive times for your truck. Tell me a little about it when you get time. |

Thanks Hemi ,,,,any time.
Humidity & barometric press. play just as big a role as temp/windspd& direction. Track conditions change as well. Cool asphalt in the morning not as sticky but air better. Lots of variables cause my truck to run 14.49 to 14.85 last season. Thing is you got over 1mph improvement. Thats not too bad. You could go back to Pomona & see a 15.15 with .2 spread next weekend. Crane rollers? 1.6 or higher? Alum.? $$? |
