Question

Last year, I bought a '97 Ram B2500 conv. van with the 3.9 V6. Under the hood, there was a sticker saying `Authorized Software Upgrade Flash PCM' and a long part number, which I should have written down. Does anyone know the reason or purpose of the upgrade? Does this require 92 Octane, like a MP computer does? I read the section on the thermostat, and plan to change to a 180 t-stat. I get a slight pinging, unless I use 93 Octane. I also use STP's Complete Feul System Cleaner every so often. Also, when in Park or Neutral, the idle jumps up breifly about once every 30 seconds. Otherwise, it runs perfect.

The label you see is "required" by law. It just shows the "latest greatest" part # your controller has been updated to. Most flashes usually have something to do with emissions or drivability issues. TSB's for your vehicle can be viewed at your dealer. There are also web sites showing some, but I'm not sure what they are.

My wife's computer went on her 96 intrepid after 12k. The Dealer put in a new one and a sticker with the part #. It also says Powertrain Upgrade Module. Then is sites a TSB# that relates to the procedure.

Maybe you could find a similar # and look it up.
With hers we did not have to do anyting different.
