I was wondering what is the easiest way for a backyard mechanic (no lift just a couple of floor jacks and jack stands)to change the shocks on a 94 ram 1500 4x4?

Just curious - what kind (brand) of shock are you going to install ? Is your truck lowered or raised any ?

Im going to install a set of Pro Comp ES3000's . The 4x4 is stock height with 265/75-16's.

it's pretty simple...get your truck up on the jack stands then with the floor jack jack up the axles or a arms (depending on if it's a 4x4 or not) until the old shocks reach their equilibrium point, i.e. there is no tension binding the bolt in. then for the new ones, raise or lower the floor jack until the holes line up. it's pretty much common sense...it's pretty self explanatory when you get everything together and look at it.

And definately use jack stands . . . SAFETY FIRST. A close personal friend of mine was crushed to death when working on his 69 Chevelle - he had the front wheels off - no jack stand - and the car slipped off the jack and sunk the brake/wheel rotor deep in his chest. They didn't find him until later - probably couldn't have yelled for help if he wanted to.
So I'm a big "SAFETY FIRST" kinda guy now . . . ------------------ "Good Luck on your project." |
