Question

Okay....Here's my question. Where can I buy a Hi-flo cat for my truck? I've got a '96 RAM with a 5.9 and this thing has the O2 sensor on the front of the cat...I've got to find one that's got this there too, right? Any suggestions would be a big help...thanks/
Joseph

When I got my dual exhaust they put on two of them. I asked for High Flow and they said that these were called Universals. I don't know what that means but they said that these were much more high flow than OEM. I believe they were $90 each installed.

When I was looking to buy headers, I bought JBA, I talked with tech support at JBA about installing a free flow cat. They told me that it would be a waste of money that all cats after 1990 were free flow. Again I only know what they tell me.

mkees,
Thats exactly what I was told by them and 2 other manufacturers. I did not change the cat and performance seems real nice.

Thumbs up

Mikey, I wish the muffler shop had itemized the bill, but the whole thing; 2-1/4 pipe 2Flowmaster 50s and 2 Cats labor and tax came to $447. Place is called Muffler City.

I remember the manager quoting $90ea for the cats. I also got a quote from United Speed World in Tampa on Florida Ave. He said direct replacement for Dodge with a Hi Flow was $130.00 I think his name is Lee (813) 935-0957 Might want to try him if you can't find one around you. I'm sure he could ship you one.
I have no idea whether the cats I have are quality or not. I really don't know too much about these things. Both places made it sound like they were all the same.

Good luck.

I know MAGNAFLOW, CATCO and Magnum Performance all sell HI flow cats - some require welding - some claim a boost of up to 40% more flow over stock. Usually a 3" converter. I've seen prices around 150 - 200.

Just my .02

Here's the scoop on a cat from Random Technology. Most 3" performance mufflers flow about 475 cfm of air. They claim that their 3" cat flows like 500-515 cfm. That's more flow than the muffler....so I guess that brand does make a difference in the flow and thus performance.
You guys have all been a great help, and I'm still trying to decide what I want to do. Whatever it may be, I am shying away from the Hi-po Mopar comp because I use a trailer for my business on a regular basis. I might could get by with it if I had a 160 or 180 thermo, but who knows?
I'm shopping around for TB's, headers, and other little go fast/power goodies. I'd even be interested in used ones if they were in good shape...hard to find those things though. Well, that's enough blabbin
Later,
Joe
