You say it cranks hard. Is this slow cranking speed like a battery going bad? Or a long cranking time. Most of the long cranking time first start of the morning problems I've seen is the fuel pump regulator not holding pressure in the rail and allows the fuel rail and lines to basically empty out over time. This means when you go key on you do not get the fuel spray to allow a fast engine start.

Mine started the same problem about 9 months ago. I have noticed that when it doesn't want to start, I release the key (back to "ON") and then try again and it fires right up.

Based on J-BODYs post, I have turned the key to the "ON" position for about 2 seconds (to allow the fuel rails to pressurize), back to "OFF" and then try to start it and it fires right up.

I have to agree that it has something to do with the pump regulator. I believe that it is in the tank with the pump. Is this correct?

Also, can you get just a regulator or do you have to buy a whole new pump, or is it a part of the fuel filter assembly?

Check out the "95 Ram fuel

some good info there.

You need to hook a fuel gauge to the fuel rail. Check for fuel pressure drop off. The fuel system maintains fuel pressure in the line after key off. Let it set and see where the fuel pessure drops off too. See how long it takes to drop off. You should have some fuel pressure in the line. If it goes to zero in a few hours, you have a regulator problem. The check valve in the regulator is not holding. You can buy that seperate.
