Question

Am I correct in assuming that I can purchase 17X9 Rims with 275/60/17 tires and they will fit my '96 Shortbed RAM without any other modifications? I think these are the same as come on the Indy Ram. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

I'm sure that is the stock set up - the only thing that will be different is your speedo. Since your truck came with 16" wheels and you will be installing 17" - the speedo will need adjusting. I think all you have to do is swap out the pinion gear in your speedometer cable and you should be all set.

If you calculate the actual tire size, it reveals 245/75/16~30.5" 275/60/17~30". The speedo will not be off by much, but the right thing to due would be to correct the speedo.

Depending on the rim it shouldn't be a problem. 5" backspacing on mine keeps them under the truck. Any less & they'll hang out from the body. Manufactuters cat. should specify if their rim will fit your year & model. Any Indy or SS/T rim should fit if your a 94+. They were manuf. by http://www.americanracing.com/mainsw.html
