I've heard many different stories regarding this. Why not just get a high-flow cat and save the environment as well as pick up some extra ponies? That's what I did....and I'd swear by it. I bought a Random Technology cat and what a difference it made! It sounds better, runs better and is still safe for the environment.....and legal too!

Magnaflow also makes an excellent hi performance cat . . . another company I have heard of (but don't really know anything about) is CATCO.

Oh yes it will effect the computor & your gas mileage to! Do yourself a favor & get a bigger cat. It wont do you much good unless you have hedders, bigger cat back, cold air tube, larger throttle body, etc. Just take off the muffler if you just want it louder. In my opinion, taking off a cat or punching it out is just plain irresponsable.
It could also void your warrenty, besides is VERY ILLEGAL!

Question

I have a Catco cat still in a box for my truck. I was going to swap out the old cat and put the Catco in, but the guy in the performance shop told me that it had no more flow than the OEM converter, so now I'm confused. Is Catco a higher flow converter or not? I have another question also. Since I have a cat-back and headers, does my exhaust flow anymore than stock BEFORE the cat? I figure that the headers are not doing any good because the cat is still producing the back pressure. If the headers are producing more flow or more HP, how are they doing it with the oem cat in place? I would appreciate any help that anyone could give. Thanks.

Ok - now I'm confused . . . I see the CATCO listed in catalogs like JC Whitney and others and they are listed as hi flow cats.

I know our stock products come closer to the performance side than others do, but didn't know the CATCO wasn't any different than stock. . .

Anyone actually TRIED CATCO ???
