OK guys I am looking at lifts and need some help. First of all everyone that I talk to says in order to lift my truck 5" with any kit I need to cut the lower arm mounts off the truck and weld new ones on (not in this life I won't). I would like to go 5 but everyone keeps telling me the same story so now I am leaning toward a 3". Also I do not have the $ to change gears I think it might be in my best interest to get the three and be happy. Any input would be much appreciated. HELP!

I dont know about cutting parts off of your truck for another two inches. I am fairly sure that skyjacker makes a five inch kit that does not require that but you would need to contact them. I would probably be happy with the three inch as my 95 Ram is stock and I clear 33x12.5 on it

GOOD LUCK.

there are at least two kits out there that you don't have to do major cutting with... skyjacker and BDS.

Rufus is right. The only lifts I know of that require that type of mod are Trailmaster 4-inch and dick cepek 6-inch 2500. If you dont want to change gears I would suggest not going over a 33-inch tire. Anything bigger and you will be robbed of serious performance and overdrive will never kick in(assuming you have 3.55 gears).

The Superlift 5" lift requires that you cut off and remount (i.e. welding) the sway bar connections above the axle near the spring mounts (ref. Mar. 98 FourWheeler or FourWheel Drive mag).

The BDS 5' mount does not require any cutting or rewelding that I can see from the parts that I got back or from looking at my truck after the lift. The BDS 5" lift works the sway bar issue by moving the stock mounts down 2-3" at the front frame connections. Again, no cutting, torching or rewelding required.

After looking at all the lifts for the 98 4x4 1500 Dodge Ram, I chose the BDS lift. Look for this same subject under "BDS Lift kit" or thereabouts for more discussion.

I'm real happy about the lift (but not about the gas mileage which was caused by the bigger tires).

Thanks,

Albin
