Has anyone had problems with the rear brakes being "grabby" when it's damp out. After the truck sits all night, the first couple of times I apply the brakes the rears just about want to lock up. After a few applications the problem clears up or the dampness evaporates. Any help would be appeciated.

I would pull the inspection plugs on the rear backing plates and make sure there is no grease leaking out of the axle seals.

My 99 2500 does it with the rear almost locking where my 96 all four grab when first driven in the rain. I think the rear bias is set high on the r brakes from factory possibly on the 2500's. My 2500 is still on its first tank of gas so there shouldn't be a problem with the brakes yet.

As a New Englander, I know the problem of "grabby" brakes well. Basically, a layer of corrosion formed on the drums, acting almost like an adhesive. The problem can be taken care of by just holding your foot lightly on the brake while moving. The same type of solution is also usefull when you get soaked in rain or puddles. A tip though, do not add any of that brake treatment stuff to your disks or drums. I had a buddy of mine do it, following the directions to the T, and his stopping distance was noticably increased for a bit. Good luck!

I have a 96 ram 1500 with the same problem in wet weather. I have just put on new rear shoes last week to try to cure the lock-up of the brakes. I haven`t had any wet weather yet to test them . I did notice some small cracks in the shoe pads between the rivets but don`t know if that was the problem.I don`t if I agree about the rust theory though because I don`t have that problem with any of my other vehicles. My truck is a daily driver and doesn`t sit for more then a day at a time. Good luck and let us know if you find the fix for the problem.
