mill the heads..........compression is way low on later 440's.....decent alum intake etc...

order the schumacher catalog $5.......full details of b/rb swaps into a bodies.....and the swap mounts are $150

My buddy put a 77 440 in a 73 Dart. He used closed chamber heads to raise compression,
484 Purple shaft, Rpm intake, 750 Holley,
headers, factory converter and 3.55 gears.
It ran a best of 12.6, 12.9 with stock intake
and through exhaust with sticky tires. It weighed 3250. Your best bet would be to mill the heads. But compression isnt to important. My 8-1 400 ran 13.1's with 3.91 gears. This was in a 3750lbs car. If gas gets any higher I'm going to put my 400 back together.I'm sure mid 12's would be easy with a little more tuning. My 440 needs better than 94 but will live on it with timing backed off. Its somewhere around 85 cents a litre right now. Its nice to be able to use cheap gas. I even raced my 400 with 87. It didn't go faster with good gas.
As for the oil pan the stock one will work.
I have found oiling is a problem with the big blocks. You have to run at least 6 litres or it sucks the pan dry at high rpm.
I run a deep pan and run 7 litres. It could just be me though. You can likely buy mounts for your application or make some.
