Anyone had problems with their manifold vacuum oscillating at idle to approx 2000 RPM? Seems to sometimes flicker on the guage 5" or so when cold. Engine is a 440 with the MP 272/.484" cam. When cold, it wants to pop out of the exhaust as it shifts from first to second in the torqueflite (low vacuum signal)? Plug ceramics are tan on one side, whitish on the other. All cylinders push 130 PSI crancking pressure. Put the fiber intake gaskets in along with the valley pan. No whistling or abnormal sucking sounds. Carter Comp. 625 carb was rejetted (rods) richer 2 steps. Too rich when cold??

The only thing I can think of is that you are pumping up the lifter during/after cold start up. I see you are in AZ, so cold to you is balmy. What oil are you running? Has this problem occured for a long time like since it was assembled or has it just changed?
I don't think it is a valve floating at that rpm. It might be a pcv, but I don't think it could have that big of an effect and it is really easy to check. Invariably it sounds like an intake valve hanging open. |
