I have recently purchased a 69 Charger R/T w/rebuilt 440. Motor Has TRW L2388F-30 pistons (10:1 ?) and has had the piston and rods balanced. The block was Cleaned&mag'd, bored&honed, Align honed, decked and the crank turned to 10/10. Motor had no oil pressure after rebuild so owner just abandoned the project for 9 years. I bought and installed the missing oil gally plug behind the timing gear and started it up with about 70lbs oil pressure. Motor run great but doesn't have the lumpity lumpity i would like.
The current cam is a tp202(TRW part # I assume) w/vl58 hyd. lifters The engine is an original macthing# engine code 917(production broadcast sheet)and i'm told is a factory H.P. RB. 3.55 gears and a 727TF trans. Planning on a new stall converter and i don't know Cam. Engine is currently out of car for close inspect due to a 65mph vibration prior to installing the rest of the trans bolts and then vibration moved up to 85/90mph Upon removal the 3 different size(diameter and thickness) washers under the FLYWHEEL bolts i think could have lead to the vibration Anywho, now i'm pulling heads etc. to see what else the numbnuts did to it and would like to go with a lumpity cam and possibly even a roller. Any help would be great. Only what to build it once and drive it on sundays. You know a few smokey burnouts maybe a few runs at the 1/4 mile strip then put it back in the garage |

The .509 mopar cam is a great cam for the 440's. It has a mean idle and makes alot of power without going overkill, or steping up to solid or roller. It would be the cheapest and easiest way to go. Use the proper valve springs. As long as there is enough valve to piston clearance. Your pistons should have notches. I have the 2355's in my 440.They have a .020 deck height. Somewhere around 10.5-1 comp. It all depends how fast you want the car to be.

I looked into the TRW L2355F pistons before I bought my Arias pistons. TRW lists them as 10.4:1 compression, but my calculations show that is hard to get. You would have to have 78cc heads and 0.020 thick head gasket. With 86cc heads and a FelPro permatorque 0.039, you get about 9.5:1 Besides they weigh 872 grams, the Arias weigh 684 grams, Ross 630 grams...

I'd agree on the 509 as well except you need more gear at least 3.91,but I'd rather see 4.10's.If you keep the 3.55's use the 284/484 cam.
