Okay,
I'm ready to pull my engine out of my Charger, finally. I am going to trailer it only about a mile and a half to the speed shop, but I'm not sure how to set it up. I am guessing I will just set the mounts on either side of the block on wood blocks and secure the engine that way? How much weight can the oil pan take before it starts to cave in? Is there anything in particular I should know or do before letting the engine rest on it's own weight? |

The oil pan will not squash, but the pan gasket will be ruined - OK for towing to take apart, bad for re-assembled motor, the gasket will leak afterwards. Try not to have the crank snout/balancer, etc. or flange touch anything. 4 X 4 chunks under front mounts. A piece of heavy angle iron (2 X 2 X 1/8 minimum) with bolts through lower bellhousing holes works OK; 8" longer than width of block, ends rest on more wood. Is this in trailer bed?

yes, it's in a trailer bed.

I always just rest motors on a old tire or 2 and tie it down real good. This seems to save the pan from dents and such.

Also, if pan dents oil pick up could bend/break. Use the tires as mentioned.
