Hey BillyBob,

I plan to install a Tru Trac(?) up front in my 97 1500 CC in the near future. Here's some info for ya. First, use a gear type LSD. If thats the route you're taking. I've been told that the cone or clutch type diffs get pretty beat up due to how the front axles engage going into 4WD. Thus, the Tru Trac. All gears.

As far as a locker. Unless you're a real serious rock crawler stay away from front lockers. On the street you'll hate yourself for installing one. Now an ARB up front, now
that's a different story. Sign me up for that program. As soon as I win the lottery that is.

Just remember who told you this. A guy with NO first hand experience but has talked to a whole bunch of shops about this very thing. All agreed on the front gear type LSD, and almost all agreed about no lockers except for the ARB.

Hope this helped a little. As soon as I get my front LSD installed, I'll post the results.

Happy Trails.........Dan

As I understand out ram's disconnect the right side front axleshaft in 2wd, but the left side axleshaft still spins the left side gear and causes the pinion gears to walk around the right side gear. The case, ring, pinion and driveshaft shouldn't spin in 2wd.

I've been told not to use anything in the front but an air locker because otherwise in 2wd you'll be spinning the case and driveshaft and losing mileage, gaining vibration, etc. Even with a gear type truetrac you will be spinning everything, although this probably won't adversely affect the truetrac as it would tend to wear out a clutch type posi or locker.

Ram Mex - your front driveshaft should be spinning in 2wd as I understand.

i had a true trac in front,i changed to an air locker last week, not because dont work just because i changed tires to 315/75,16.
let me tell you that the true trac works in one way very similar to an open carrier, especially when one wheel its of the ground, the true trac will give your traction tire 3 times the force that you spinning wheel has, thats meen if you jack your two back wheels and one front you wont move even if you use your brakes and give some feedbak to the ligted tire
