I just bought another mopar, but it is in Fla and I live in Pennsylvainia. I got some quotes from some professional car shippers and they said it would cost $700 per car! Any cheaper ways would be appreciated.

Does it run and drive? Post an ad at a local college to have someone drive it to your house. I would have loved to do that for someone while getting free transportation back to my home.

Sometimes its cheaper to fly to the nearest airport and drive the car home. I have also taken a bus to wherever the car is then drive the car home. You also get to see the USA.

You might also be able to post an ad on one of the Mopar classifieds and see if someone is hauling something down that way. OR check with one of the "hot shot" trucking companies- the ones with the smallet cab/trailer setups. They might be coming back this direction empty. A friend of mine found someone hauling a car down, they hauled his from GA to PA, he picked it up in Pittsburgh (100 mi away) but it only cost him $100.
I see you're in NW PA, are you near Erie? Al |

You may also want to see if the seller will meet you halfway on the distance.I sold a 69 Cuda and did this for the new owner. You can also rent a car from Dollar Rent-A-Car one way as they do not charge for mileage.(if of course the "new" Mopar is running)

That 700 dollar quote sounds about right. I paid $695 to have my Dodge shipped from Fort Worth, Texas to Central Alabama by truck.
Shipping by truck is the only way I can think of to get it up there. Or you could always wait 100 years until we have matter-transporting devices. That seems to solve everything....... |

You could alwas fly down(or ride a bus down) and then get a Ryder or Budget truck with a trailer and bring it back up. Should cost you no more than $350 to do it that way.
You can also check with household movers (eg. Atlas van lines). Most household movers can ship it in an enclosed trailer. There are generaly cheaper than auto transport services. Ed ------------------ '96 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT CC 360 4X4 '68 Charger 383-4 |

J-Body has the right idea besides doing it yourself is more fun. I once droppped off my old Roadrunner when I was selling it and picked up a friends minivan on the way back and made a complete one day trip but was 20 hours straight. Was loads of fun. And good bonding time with my dad.

If the car can be driven at all, you might try the auto train from Florida. While I was down in Daytona fighting the wildfires 2 years ago I ran across a 71 charger for sale. I didn't do it because the seller and I could not come to terms. Auto train was less than 200 dollars including my ticket. The car just needs to be driven onto the train then back off, and you need to travel with it. It's an idea. Larry

Rent a U-Haul 3/4 ton truck and a car dolly for two days. Total cost $60. Tell them it is local and unhook the speedo before you leave. Get a friend to go with you and do a marathon run to Florida and back. The only bad part of the plan is if the truck breaks down or you get a ticket because you did not know how fast you are going. Nevermind, forget I mentioned this.

I got a quote on what a plane ticket would cost for me and a friend to go there. It was $400 bucks a pop! forget that idea. I don't have enough time to ride a bus down( it would take 3 straight days there, back)

Get one of those dollys that you always see motor homes towing cars with. And if you don't have anything with a hitch I have seen U-Hall rent out these strap on hitches that will go on to anything with a real bumper. Dont know how fun this whould be with a 3 day trip down then a 3 day trip up. After gas and the loss of a whole week it might be cheaper to have it shipped. I once used my old 71 pickup to push my friends old aspen home..to bad they dont make bumpers like they used to. I couldnt see doing that for a 3 day drive
